Youth Basketball Programs
Playing basketball offers kids a variety of health, emotional and social benefits. Kids not only build skills to enjoy and learn the game, but learn what makes for a great teammate both on and off the court, all while making friends and building self-esteem.
The YMCA of Greater Omaha offers a number of diverse youth basketball programs that let kids of all ages take part in the fun of basketball and grow a love for the game.
Jr. Mavericks Recreational Basketball
This six-week instructional league will help children ages 3-4 learn the basics of basketball, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. Practices and games are held for one hour each Saturday — a half-hour practice session followed by a half-hour game. T-Shirt for Pre-K and Jersey for Kindergarten included with your registration fee.
Jr. Mavericks Fundamental Basketball
Fundamental Basketball will help teach your child the ins and outs of basketball without the stress of a competitive environment. We’ll use a controlled simulation to help children experience the game and learn at their own pace!
Jr. Mavericks Recreational Basketball League
A fun league for kids grades 1st-8th, with practices held once per week at your coach’s discretion. Teach your kids the fun of team play in a casual, easygoing environment! Boys games will be held on Saturday, girls games on Sunday. Jerseys are included with your registration fee and are required during games and practices. The Omaha basketball league goes for five months in the summer and fall, three months in the winter.
For teens in 9th-12th grades, this league will offer a competitive team sports environment that will group them with people their age, allowing them to continue honing their skills and have a place for fun league play. Games for 9th-10th grades are on Saturdays; games for 11th-12th grades are on Sunday afternoons. Jerseys with screen-printed numbers are required for all high school players. No team t-shirts allowed. Jerseys are included in the registration fee.
